Pre Production Stainless Boiler Nozzle Test
Ok running test on the Pre Production version of the boiler nozzle for the 2025 models and beyond. This nozzle is quite longer than the first versions to center fuel consumption of the hopper load. Production versions will be made of stainless steel along with the water tank. Since we will be stocking SS sheet metel for the water tank construction, the side brackets, hopper lid and flare will also be made with SS sheet metal.
I will be running this nozzle for longevity testing. So far fuel biassing was centered as shown here at the end of the video. However, ,later in tonights run the my CFX demo was not able to sustain the typical 2 kW load as it normaly can. So the char depth maybe too short and I may need to shorten the nozzle a bit. I will test again to see if this repeats on the next run. If it does then the nozzle will shortened 2 inches. Even if the fuel does bias to torward the front of the unit it should still consume the hopper; as before the nozzle was much shorter and this biasing was extreme to the front. So there is room for this adjustement.

CFX Boiler Nozzle Test 4

Ok installed a check valve and this has solved and stabalized the flow issues. The check valve prevents steam presure from back driving the water tank. Now as steam presure can not vacate the chamber so the water in the chamber can boil off and inject into the nozzle. Once it depletes presure is reduced and water flows back in replenishing the nozzles water chamber and the process repeats witho...

      Yeah thats why my machines are charcoal. The gas is as clean LP or NG. These are not wood gasifiers they are charcoal. I spent 8 years chasing wood gasification and become a world leader in small scale systems. I abandoned my pride, ego and that tech in 2020 and I will never ever go back. Charcoal gasification is the only way to run small engines under 1000cc. Wood gasification will only work on large engines with robust vavle tranes that can tollerate tars and soots. Otherwise it will destroy a small engine in a heart beat. There is no such thing as a tar free wood fueled gasifier. Murphy's Law; if it can happen it will!

      Its already is; The Gasifier has nothing to do with the output. That is on the generator side it can only output so much on syngas. If you need more power get a bigger generator. As for reliability the CFX is as good as it gets. It already is a reliable machine Ive demonstriaghted this here in the video and countless other videos. The issue I had on this run I found that I had the air compressor plugged in and it was on. Its stored in the shed you see behind the generators and I think it was trying to fire up. Otherwise the CFX fueling the 459cc Lifan power generators can typically output 2500 watts sustaining continouose. Thats actually already pushing the technology to its limits. Others cant do this.

      Bare in mind regardless if you charge at 3 kW or 2 kW at the end of the day the BTU value of the hopper charge is the same. So your total net kW/hours are going to be roughly the same. Its better to run at a more reserved output rather than pushing it to the edge where you have to constantly fiddle it. Take what the machine will give and dont be greedy. Your gasifier wont like that.

    • @Thrive-Off-Grid
      @Thrive-Off-Grid 24 дні тому

      I will for the 2024 CFX prevouse machines can not be upgraded as the interface is 1" NPT. This requires a minimum 1 1/4" interface. You are lucky as you have the DFX S4 that is the only version pre CFX that has this interface. The 2025 CFX will have a 1 1/2" interface So it will have the ability for a larger version for teaming and setting for larger engine applications. I will only offer the upgrade upon request and it wont be cheap as it will be special order and they are a bit to do. Machining SS is a royal pain in the ars! Plus the parts are $100 bucks. So shop labor plus parts is going to put this around $300 bucks.

Fire that retort with garbage wood pine and waste pallets and other wood waste. Its actually more eficient because you cant use that waste wood in a wood gasifier either. @Thrive-Off-Grid Місяць тому

      You are not loosing energy in charcoaling process. You can use your retort to heat plus hot water production. The water Steam boiler nozzle is putting all the losses right back into the unit. A wood gasifier will lose 30% or greater in its reaction where a charcoal gasifier the water injection is putting 35% back in. At small scale the wood fuel must be 100% dry or it will produce tar, that will require a kiln especially in colder climates. Winter time forget it. Wood fuel gasifiers will never ever run stable like a charcoal system like demontstrated here not even with automation. I built wood fueled systems for 8 years before I finally built the these charcoal systems. I am one theee most advanced devs in this space. Wood fuel gasification is junk and it dont work. Wood fuel system are best for larger inline 4 cyl to V8 engine applications. They must be large enough to flow and the application must be large enough to drive the unit to tar cracking temps. Small engines are not capable of this and a small scale wood gasifier will not flow.

      @Thrive-Off-Grid I like your design:) I believe using al the energy in the fuel is more efficient, right? So yes, en no . I believe What did is even more efficient replicating the 2 stage viking gasiffier from denmark. The results are really astonishing. In a nutshell its running a charcoal maker on the exhaust gasses of the engine . That makes super heated steam ,charcoal en tar gas . Before the reduction zone the tar is al burned en al the stuff is reduced to perfectly tar free blue gas flame

      @Thrive-Off-Grid even with 30% to 35% Moisture it sustained a perfectly bleu flame in the raw gas . Because most work is done by the producer gas en exhaust gas heat around the heated screw feeder en hopper funnel. It has a hopper of about 270l, so about 60-70kg per run with 1.2 kw/h /kg that's gonna give quite some energy. Even on a small engine with 1 to 1.5 kw load, it does perfectly fine 🙂 most i got out of it is 5 kw to this day . That's on a modified 7kw diesel generator

      scavanging every callory = high complexity= more stuff to break= way less user freindly. KISS!! and unless there are videos of it like I show I wouldnt buy into it. Dont miss the point here this CFX with this nozzle is extremly efficient. A wood gasifiert cant touch it even with the losses in charcoal process. This machine can net 8 kW / hours on just 10 lbs of fuel. Water is also a fuel imput you cant do that with a wood gasifier. You dont have to waste anything in the charcoaling process, Use it to heat your home, use it for hot water prodcuction. Producing wood fuel is not free the equipment dont run on air. Charcoal fuel prep is nothing more than cutting and splitting fire wood. If you run a a wood chipper with a gasifier you are only going to net 50% you are going to burn 50% to make the fuel. There is no free lunch only a massive head ache. Might want to spend some time our forum and read our history thread. We are way beyond novice builders that are on the market now.

    • @Thrive-Off-Grid
      @Thrive-Off-Grid Місяць тому

      Whats a " blue " flame got to do with anything? I chased that for five years until I finaly learned; You can not determine gas composition by flare color. Hydrogen does not burn blue unless its lab grade. CO will burn blue but only if its by itself. CH4 will burn purple, H2S produced in a gasifier burns orange not blue. Black carbon / tar burn solid yellow. A typical clean flare from a wood gasiifer will range from orange to violet with a blue base and air mixture can change the color as well. Ive been doing this for 12 years this is what I do for a living and have built some of the most advanced machines that exist today. Anyone telling you thier gasifier is creating a blue flare 100% of the time is yanking your chains and trying to part you with your money.

      @@sjf67gto Yeah thats why I no longer will ever offer a wood gasifier for small engines. Last year I gave it another go with wood fuel (hence the video you are watching here) and by the end of the year I decided to abandon wood fuel. Charcoal is the only way. Burn that junk out and refine the fuel first. These machines run far more stable, tar is very unlikely and the gas is clean. The DFX-10 and any counter part has been discontinued this year. The 2024 CFX charcoal gasifier is the only machine I offer and am concluding the development for small engine gasification. Its an awesome machine and I just cant make it any better. Although I am going to experiment with a new jet nozzle to increase the water cracking capability. The 2024 CFX has a 30/60 ratio. 30% of the gas energy density is produced from the water alone. For every 10 gallons / 10 lbs of charcoal the machine can crack 2 liters of water. Im hopefull this new boiler jet will introduce more steam production while deluting the amount of atmosphere allowed into the machine. This should increase the energy density of the gas making it more powerful while making it more efficient< less charcoal required to produce "X" amount of net output. Currently 10 gallons of charcoal wiil net around 5 kW / hours charging. Yeah charcoal is also easier than wood fuel. You will never keep up with fuel drying if ran on a daily basis. Not everyday is 80 and sunny and the winter time in the north might as well forget it.

    Does this system outperform you CFK-10 ? That set up seemed very optimal except for being continuously fed and therefore hands on. This one does use fewer parts and less machining. Looks like it needs more hands on fire management than I'd thought. If your burn chamber was twice as big, I bet you could burn it tlud style and never have to touch it. A Top Lit Top Draft fire might also work, but I've only ever done that in a trench or trough, actively fed and tended to. Insulation might add enough efficiency that your current sized firebox could do the job without reloading. A sheet metal shroud would offer some insulation and preheat the combustion air. Putting the fuel you've been drying into its own "retort" could make it easier to babysit. Just an open topped section of drum would help keep the flames off. A big enough stock pot or half a beer keg would be ideal. Putting your fuel drying barrel horizontal over the heat could really be useful, but also a hassle loading and unloading. A heat exchanger made of duct or pipe could drop into multiple barrels like a giant boot dryer, with one fan pushing air through the part over the retort. A water heating coil could do the same , but just with heat, no air movement. Love your work, as always, thanks for sharing!

    Only limited by the number of barrels. I used Rockwool fire resistant insulation for the retorts . Wrapped it around the outside and then wrapped it with metal roofing to keep the insulation in place. Got a whole summer out of it before it needed to be changed out, That makes a huge difference getting the temperature high enough inside the retort.
